Growing Stronger: The Next Phase

Memory & Movement Charlotte – originally Memory Center Charlotte – was created to address the need for comprehensive, compassionate care for patients and families coping with memory loss. Identifying and meeting this need has guided our vision since, and brought us to an exciting moment of expansion in three key areas:

  • Unprecedented Growth
MMC welcomes about 40 patients every month. Many are families in urgent need of care. This growth requires dramatic expansion of both our staff and our physical space.

With support from generous individuals and foundations, we’ve purchased a larger space one block from our current office. Renovations are underway and we expect to move this spring. The new facility will allow us to serve more families with expanded services – onsite physical, occupational and speech therapy; music and art therapy and more.
  • Caregiver Support
Last spring, with support from the Philip L. Van Every Foundation and feedback from caregivers, we launched Take Charge! our comprehensive education and support program. We have expanded our support groups, and a nurse practitioner and social worker have joined our team. As a result, patients and families are already benefiting from more individualized care plans and enhanced caregiver support.
  • Family Focus
A new patient’s initial meeting at MMC focuses on communicating needs and expectations, and we’ve expanded this to a two-part appointment.

The first appointment focuses on building a care team. This two-hour session includes a comprehensive discussion with a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to understand main concerns, medical history, support network, identify any immediate risks, and establish the best way for the care team – MMC, the patient and the family – to work together.

The second appointment is the launch of care. The physician meets with the patient and caregiver(s) both together and separately. This one-hour appointment includes a combination of clinical, emotional and educational care – customized to each family’s journey.

We look forward to welcoming you to MMC’s new home this spring, and introducing these changes and more.

What will never change is our commitment to providing the time, attention, and compassion required to walk step by step with each family during this challenging time. Thank you for that privilege.
