“MMC helped us peel back the veil”

Memory & Movement Charlotte helped care for Fred over the last five years of his long struggle with Alzheimer’s. While making the retired captain in the Fire Department as comfortable as possible, MMC also focused on his family.

Doctors and staff provided answers to their questions. They gave them the skills they needed to care for their father. They helped them “peel back the veil,” says a daughter, so they could see beyond Alzheimer’s to the wonderful man they knew before the disease.

“Our concern became their concerns,” says Diane, one of four daughters who helped care for their dad. “They came in with love.” Fred was 74 when he passed away at home in early 2019.

A year later, twin sisters Diane and Dianna are launching a nonprofit devoted to helping caregivers with housework, yardwork and cooking.

“The Center gave us hope,” Diane says. Now they plan to pay it forward.
