New Parkinson’s Support Group Launches

At MMC, our best programs come straight from you. Over the past year, many patients have shared how helpful it would be to have a place to meet others living with Parkinson’s - a space to talk, learn from one another, and feel understood. We heard you, and we’re excited to announce that MMC is launching a new Parkinson’s Support Group beginning Tuesday, February 17. The group will meet every 3rd Tuesday from 4:30–5:30 p.m., in person at the MMC clinic.

Meet the Group Leader: Dr. Larry Watts

We couldn’t be happier to have Dr. Larry Watts leading this group. Larry instantly makes others feel comfortable – he’s thoughtful, approachable, and deeply experienced in supporting adults through health and life changes.

Larry holds advanced degrees in aging, spirituality, and gerontology, and he’s spent decades working with older adults and families in both hospital and senior living settings. Over the years, he’s guided countless people through moments of challenge and transition, always with a calm, steady presence.

Larry also understands Parkinson’s on a personal level, because he’s living with the condition himself and he brings that lived experience into the way he supports others. Although he has a background as a pastor and chaplain, Larry will lead this group from a secular, practical perspective focused on everyday coping, connection, and encouragement.

A Special Connection to MMC

Larry’s connection to MMC began decades before the practice was founded.  In the 1990s, when Dr. Edwards’ parents lived at Matthews Glen, Larry was the onsite pastor. He supported the Edwards family through their dementia journey – an experience that helped shape Dr. Edwards’ vision for the type of care MMC would eventually offer.

Today, that connection comes full circle. MMC is supporting Larry in his own Parkinson’s journey, and he’s excited to give back by guiding this group and sharing what he’s learned personally and professionally.

Why This Group Matters

Living with Parkinson’s can feel isolating, but it doesn’t have to. This group is a place to meet others walking a similar path, trade tips, share frustrations or successes, and feel encouraged. It’s a space built because patients asked for it, led by someone who truly understands. Whether you’re living with Parkinson’s or caring for someone who is, you’re welcome to join us.
